first kill with xcal

Post by aubie515 »

This is only the second year of deer hunting for me, so I was super excited to get my first kill with my Phoenix. I took the xcal into my part time job at a gun shop...to sight in the Phoenix...I wanted to make sure that I was sighted in correctly at 20 yards. It is suppose to rain here in PA for the next few days...I took my chance and when out around 4:30PM...today was the first time I ever went archery hunting, so I am proud of myself for getting a kill on my very first time out. I had on ASAT camo and I saw three does coming forward. The lead doe kept on looking at me...as I moved my crossbow, she spotted me and alerted the other two does. I moved 10 yards from the pervious spot and had my back to where I eventually shot. I had to do a 180 to get off the shot and the varizone scope was a bit foggy from the rain and my breathing. I couldn't really get a good look at the doe through the scope. I use a branch as a reference point and knew that the doe was to the left of the branch. I took the shot and waited a few moments before I started to track the doe. I saw blood on the ground and it was starting to get dark. I tracked the doe about 40 yards from where I shot her. The doe was a smaller sized one, but I was very blessed to have the opportunity to harvest my very first deer with my xcal. I didn't take any pictures because it was dark out and I just wanted to get the deer to the processing center.

I wanted to share my first experience with everyone on this forum. Everyone on this forum has always been polite and helpful. Thank you for answering all the questions and thank you Excalibur for making such an accurate tool. I am planning on going out tomorrow morning or evening and seeing if I can get a larger doe.

Thanks everyone...I forgot to mention that I did not recover the bolt. I was planning looking for it today, but the rain was coming down hard today. I am taking the first two weeks in November off, so I am hoping to shoot my first buck.
