Deer anatomy question
Deer anatomy question
Do does have tarsal gland? I haven't really paid attention or noticed. Is this strictly an anatomical feature among bucks or are they just more developed on bucks?
You can take the man out of the woods but you can't take the woods out of the man.

The late season doe I got last year really "stank" of deer channel No.5
. The glands were very evident.
On that note, does anyone cut off the glands and use them as lures during the hunting season??? Just wondering if I should keep the one I've got in the freezer. Do they keep well frozen for a year?

I hunt for memories, the meat's a bonus!
Yes, you should also remember to cut them off with a different knife then one you field dress the deer with. They will also last over the year if frozen, I would tripple bag them and then wrap with a clean rag. This has worked for me before.ecoaster wrote:On that note, does anyone cut off the glands and use them as lures during the hunting season??? I cut off the tarsals from a doe and keep them for next year in the freezer. Then tie a string on them and attach to my boot, letting them drag on the ground. Use de-scented rubber boots. Bucks will follow that trail right to you.
Thanks,
