Not sure about blood but..... I grind up chicken breasts with water in a blender until it is like a juice then I put it in a sports bottle and squirt a trail in the grass for my bloodhound to track. Then I put my oldest beagle on it and he follows it at high speed. We just put some on a cloth and let them smell it and then take him to the trail.

I used the same technique as Wheelie. I used deer blood and water on a rag, start out laying short trails with a food reward at the end and gradually increase the distance. You could keep some of the trimming off the any deer and use them for a nice reward at the end of the training trail. Don't overdo the training sessions.

Depending on where you are I'm sure I have some bags of trimmings in the freezer from last fall I could give you for training your dog.

My only problem is if you train a beagle for blood on deer then he may stay on deer as that is what he may think is wanted from him. Dog chases deer the MNR has authority to shoot your dog. Some areas you are allowed dogs, but nowhere around where I live. They say once a beagle is on deer you have a hard time getting them off deer. Then dog may have trouble when you take him for rabbits as he may want to chase deer instead. Just what I heard and have no first hand knowledge of it. But to then turn around and correct him with a shock collar wouldn't be fair to dog for something you taught him to do in the first place. That's my opinion for what it is worth.
I have rabbit scent and a drag for my beagles to track for fun. As stated above, yes I put small treats at the end also. My dogs never get free treats, they always have to do something to get one. No shake-a-paw, as that has no value for a treat.

I have a JR/Beagle mix that i have trained to blood trail deer. She was born 1st week of June & i had killed couple deer in Sept. I put her on each one & worked with her & gave her miniture marshmellows fer treats. Then let her have plenty of deer scraps while cleaning them. Gussie has deer here at the cabin everyday & she doesn't run them but does chase them off their feeder being pest & and wanting to annoy them  Thats been 2 yrs now & she has found every deer all 9, this yr will be a good one as i am seeing lots of deer here on the place.

I also have a Jack Russel/beagle mix. He is acually to fast for rabbits. Hoping he slows down as he gets older. Crazy darn dog. He can clear a 4 foot fence from a stand still. Can't just come on the couch. He has to jump over the back and land on the seat. Problem is when you are laying down. Favorite spot is laying across the top of our lazyboy chair. Always wants to be high up. My bloodhound tries to be like him and crashes alot. LOL

I missed out on having a fellow train my German Shepard to do blood tracking. He knew how to train the dog, offered to do it for free, then passed away before I could get his help.

Anyway, if you want the dog to track blood, wouldn't that be the thing to use in laying down a track? If you use skin or other pieces of the animal then the dog might get the idea that any piece of the animal was what you wanted. Maybe using different kinds of blood at different times would be the best way of getting the dog to understand that it's the blood trail that is to be followed?

The guy who was going to train my dog was going to get the blood from an abbatoir--beef, pig, chicken blood, should all be accessible. Save other kinds in a plastic bag in your freezer, such as from a deer or grouse.. Put it on a rag and drag the rag to leave a blood scent. That's how the fellow was going to train my dog.

X2 that is a beautiful dog and looks like a great tracker, I have one question being new to bow hunting, do deer generally try to hide when they expire, it looks like this one found some cover.
Nice deer as well. Looks good! :D

I can only tell you of my experience of some over 400 deer that almost every whitetail that didn't die on the spot was trying to get away & into some cover to Hide
