looking for the best bolts to use for my axiom

Post by gregtsuperfly »

Okay everyone! I'm sorry with all the newbie questions but which bolts are the best to use? And where do I get them?

You'll get lots of opinions on your question, but most factory offerings will be adequate for hunting.

I would pick 2216 aluminum as my choice, but I doubt you'll get many recommendations for them. They aren't the latest & greatest, but they're accurate!

I'm shooting Easton 2219 aluminum 20" with a 150 grn. Bolt Cutter Broadhead.I paid $32 for 6 arrows(4" vane, flat nock)at a Dunhams' Sporting goods store.Shooting into a block target at 30 yards I have to turn the block side ways because the arrows will go completely through the front of the target. Some times the arrow still goes completely through the side of the block target, but most of the time the arrow buries up to the fletching.I'm also shooting an Axiom.I switched from carbon arrows to aluminum strictly for the penetration factor plus the stiffness and also because it handles the 150 grn. Bolt Cutter Broadhead. Every deer shot with these aluminum arrows were complete pass throughs(17 yards distance).Last year I shot a deer at approx 18 yards with a carbon Deer Crossing Arrow(150 grn. Bolt Cutter Broad head),from a ground blind and hit the deer a little high(ribs)and the arrow did not do a complete pass through. The arrow was sticking out both sides of the deer.Luckily the deer fell over and rolled, breaking both fletching and broadhead off.leaving about 14 inches of arrow shaft in the deer. The deer died right there but all the blood was inside the deer.No blood for tracking.Had to warn the deer processor about the broken carbon shaft still inside the deer.He was very thankful!

I have switched to carbon and never looked back. Both have drawbacks, but carbon has won the war for me. Black Eagles are excellent choice, Executioner, or Zombie Slayer's will be great for your bow, no doubt.

My guess is he only has 4! Go with what you like, there are no wrong answers folks, just opinions based on what folks here use, and have proven to themselves to be deadly accurate.

Will be nice to read what you decide on!

Nothings wrong with them. They will get it done for you. But if you are looking for the "best arrow" to use many chose Black Eagle arrows.

No actually I've already gone through 22 bolts! I keep breaking them! I've lost about a dozen from hitting them with other bolts in the target! Geez! I have 9 left I've learned to stop aiming at the same spot when target shooting but it's hard to get groups this way lol!

You may want to try using a target with several bulls eyes on the same side for your groups and in the picture are firebolts. This group is dime sized.
