Bulldog 380
Bulldog 380
Got my Bulldog 380 sighted in today, I love this bow. Ended up with an 1 1/2" to 2" grouping at 60 yds. I was using the standard Illuminated diablos with a 100
Gr field point. After sighting in my bow, my buddy chrono'ed it to an 364 fps sec with 360-362 gr arrow.
Does my speed seem seem nomal for other bulldog owners?
Does anyone have an ideal of how much arrow drop I can expect between 60-70 yds. Basically I'm asking if my 60 is dead on, if I held on the deer back at 70 yds with my 60 haskmark would you think it'll drop in the pump-house with the Kentucky windage. I got the complete suppressor add-ons on the bow minus the string stars..just don't want to give up the speed for the slight reduction in noise the stars would offer. Any other bulldog 380 owners have any suggestions.
Thanks

That's some long shooting at a critter. I encourage you to shoot your broadheads at these ranges before shooting at any game. I'm actually very surprised at the results you say you're getting. The factory arrows are meant to use 150gr + broadheads because they use a lighter aluminum insert vs heavier brass inserts required for sufficient FOC without the heavy points. Factor in adding a heavier Luminok to the nock end you're reducing your FOC further. I have not been able to produce your results with the stock equipment. Do test everything BEFORE hunting.

I too am I surprised by the group size you're getting with those arrows, i wasn't able to achieve what you're claiming. I suspect you'll see that open up with a BH. Nobody here can tell you what your exact drop and holdover is going to be and it would be unwise for anyone to speculate especially since you're talking about shooting at an animal and NOT a target. It would also be unadvisable to shoot at game at that distance without a TON of practice and even then I personally won't take that shot, (I'm using a Matrix 410 with matched, premium arrows, an HHA dial and scope combo that is pinpoint accurate to 100y). To each his own...

I'd like to know how you get a 362 gr arrow. Usually the bare factory arrow is 250 gr without a broadhead.
Chronographs are a tricky thing. They can easily give you erroneous readings. The best way I know how to use one is by using an indoor lighting kit with no florescent ambient lighting.
As far as distance goes, if you want to shoot at deer to 40 yards, practice to 50 or better yet, 60 and 70 yards.

On the weight, he did mention lighted nocks. I agree with all the statements about practicing with your broadheads, and encourage you to get those shots in at a closer range when hunting.

Yep, you're right. I forgot that the Diablos have aluminum rear nocks.xcaliber wrote:On the weight, he did mention lighted nocks. I agree with all the statements about practicing with your broadheads, and encourage you to get those shots in at a closer range when hunting.

Paul , maybe I just got a good group of lighted diablo.. I did have one slight flyer and I vane tuned it back into the group.. I was actual shocked they group that well. Im really interested in getting into a heavier arrow setup after this season.. thankspaulaboutform wrote:That's some long shooting at a critter. We did use the lighted chrono in doors it's a high end model my buddy has.. my readings on several attempts w the same arrow was either 363 /364Boo wrote:I'd like to know how you get a 362 gr arrow. Usually the bare factory arrow is 250 gr without a broadhead.

Re: Bulldog 380
I'm not saying if a monster showed up at 60 I wouldn't shoot at him in all honesty.. if I know I've practiced and confident at shooting at that distance.. I'm practicing at 50/60 to make a 40 a mental chip shot.. most of the shots I've take on my food plot have been 35-40 yds on the long side and that's with a compound.Epfireman wrote:We did use the lighted chrono in doors it's a high end model my buddy has.. my readings on several attempts w the same arrow was either 363 /364Boo wrote:I'd like to know how you get a 362 gr arrow. Re: Bulldog 380
I'm only shooting 50/60 now after I sighted the bow in at all distances.. it's my mental game I play.. shooting at those distances make the 20/30 yder a easy mental shot.. at least for meracking up points wrote:I too am I surprised by the group size you're getting with those arrows, i wasn't able to achieve what you're claiming. Re: Bulldog 380
I'm using the rage hypodermics 100 gr this season.. I've shot them out of my compound and they fly really well for me .. very close to the field points.. now whether I have this same results with this broadhead out of the crossbow I'm not sure .. I'll will take the sound advice and test them at all distances to see the effect distance has on them out of the crossbow.. I know at 50 yds they are deadly accurate out of my high end compound that's been hyper tuned.Epfireman wrote:I'm only shooting 50/60 now after I sighted the bow in at all distances.. it's my mental game I play.. shooting at those distances make the 20/30 yder a easy mental shot.. at least for meracking up points wrote:I too am I surprised by the group size you're getting with those arrows, i wasn't able to achieve what you're claiming.
