The Best Advice you've been given?
I mentioned this in another thread, what's the best hunting advice you've ever been given?
For Wild Turkey, the guy who got me into turkey hunting, and got me my first two birds back to back opener and second day. Once told me, and I'm paraphrasing, " If your first instinct is to do option A, do option B instead".
How many times have you sat when you should have walked, or crawled when you should have sat. If you think the bird is going to do something, do the opposite and it'll likely work out for you.
So what's the best little tidbit that helped you out over the years?

The best I ever got was this from an old man that became a great friend. He's gone now for many years but he smoked in his stand, cigars that is, and didn't give a crap about his clothes smelling. He said "learn the land and you'll always now where to hunt". I'm no turkey hunter, but many times I planned a deer hunt for the following morning only to switch it up successfully because it felt right for the place i was hunting. I imagine that goes with several species being hunted, and fished as well.

I read to hunt where the deer are not where you wish they would be!
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

An old guy I met in Alabama one spring many years ago told me to stop calling to them on the roost .

You won't kill anything if you don't shoot at it.
Meaning: If you're always waiting for the perfect shot opportunity, you may never get one. Slightly quartering away or broadside is preferred, but there are plenty of other effective and lethal shots. You just have to be aware of your limitations and that of your equipment. Shot placement is always key.

Always check your safety and don't walk around with it off and ready to shoot because if you trip up you could shoot your eye out But for real always check it

*Listen to your gut. How much wildlife ive taken when i have it set in my mind to sit in a certain stand only to have a change of heart at the last second walking in. Ive shot deer when ive decided the hunt was done but something told me to sit back down for another ten minutes
*blue jays are good luck
*after gutting a deer, the next day your farts smell like deer guts.

Bring a compass. It's awkward when the GPS batteries die and you have to eat to eat your friends.

Invest well in a really good pair of boots!!
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming "Wow, What a Ride!
