Re: OLDER HUNTERS
4 wheelers at 51yrs i think i am still in decent shape and want to remain that way. smarter not harder! i don't hunt public land often in those cases the old standby drag rope; can't seem to locate any young dumb kids wanting to hunt including my own 16yrd. sports and girls take up most of thier time.
better an overkill than an underkill

I am 70 years young. I back my 4 wheeler up to the deer, tie a rope around its antlers or neck pull it up so the back end is all that drags, tie the rope to the back rack and take off. Cheers

I qualify as a senior here in ontario. Still hunt but it is not as easy as it used to be. I either haul them out with a plastic ice slider "kids use them for slides" in the snow. Carry block and tackle in truck. Or use cell to call neighbour and ask for a lift.
He comes and lifts for me. Usually costs me a few beers around the wood stove in the garage after. Of course I have to be a "good neighbour" and join him.

What i use for putting the deer in the truck is two planks i use for loading my lawn mower i put the planks in place and slid the deer up the planks into the truck they serve duo purpose.

Re: OLDER HUNTERS
First choice then if things get tough I call out the big stuff.
Can't get 4 wheeler access Helper Winch to the rescue
. ( 100 foot cable slow and steady)
Helper Winch when the terrain is difficult to get access by 4 wheeler.
With right block set up and No deer or moose is too big no matter what.
Hang em is even easier.

That looks like it weighs more than most deer I've killed

Same here !
thats why I said when things get tough.
Now when comes to 800 moose it really pays for it self.
Of course when it comes to moose they are usually shoot in the worse sh! t hole . So it allows you to easyily move it to place where it is easier to work on to field dress

Hey there VM, that's great on private land. For those of us who don't have that option, well.......vixenmaster wrote:I am determined not to give it up until i can no longer move to get to my stands. I am closing in on 50yrs and I feel your pain. After years of being the bull of the woods and many accidents etc etc etc ... Heck I pay for cutting the grass and as for dragging out a deer, well let's just say an atv or utv is my only option if I have no one to help me.bigbuckonly1 wrote:Just wondering how you older hunters with some health problems get your deer out of the woods, me and my brother hunt together we are closing in on 60 years old, we use the cabelas pull cart but we both have lots of back problems & whenever we have a deer to get out we pay for it dearly for several days after that being down in our back from all the bending & straining, just wondering if any of you other guys have any of the same problems. Thanks for listening.
We have to just try and keep on keeping on though.

Personally I like Mike the Vixenmaster's idea of a piece of carpet;
to drag behind an ATV or whatever.
It could also be used as a wind break ;or a seat before being needed
to drag a deer or whatever, back to wherever.
Either by machine or pulled behind walking.

I am in my late 60's a Lady never tells her any one her age. Bad back and no cartilage in both knees. If I can't use my 4 wheeler or did not take it to where I was hunting that night I call my lifter (next door neighbour) Guy is stronger than a Clydesdale horse, all he asks is which farm are you at and where are you. Been my lifter for years. He always makes him self available when I ask him and his wife just laughs.
