Lumenok Use " Note of Caution Tip"
Lumenok Use
" Note ""
A little background:
While sitting in my tree stand today I slid my arrow in the rail track forward and backward. What I noticed was that it did not slide smoothly. There was significant chatter.
Upon close inspection I determine that the Lumenok was responsible for the rough chatter as the arrow slid in the rail track. Enhanced by the arrow retainers downward force or any extra applied downward pressure.
Solution:
What I determined to be the culprit causing the issue was the one of the metal contact wires on the Lumenok which was lined up with the upper inner edge of the rail track on one side. The sharp edge of metal contact wire was digging into the edge of the rail track.
So I gave the Lumenok a slight rotation in the arrow shaft which resulted in the arrow being able to slide smoothly in the rail track no matter how much downward pressure was applied.
Although this is a by chance occurrence due to the diameter / size of the metal contact wire and all the possible placements positions of the Lumenok insert when installed.
It is clearly a concern and can cause issues when the stars align as the saying goes.
Plus if left unnoticed it could after numerous shoots quite possibly cause damage to the inner contact surface of one of rail track edges.
So a as rule I will from now on align the metal contact wire with one of the vanes when installing a Lumenok which should prevent the either of the ( 2 ) contact wires from making contact with the rails inner edges.
Here is a picture of the Lumenok metal contact wire.

Good price !
However the Lumenoks I bought were a deal which I could not pass up.
I suspect a pricing mislabel ( 3 for $12 ) needless to say I bought quite a few.
Besides easy solution now that I know the potential exists

That is what I figured had to be done to solve the problem I encountered.
Great pic to demonstrate proper installation. Except I aligned with the vane that fits in track of rail. (Index arrow vanes for best accurancy )
As I look at your pic it is clear that it is important to align with the vanes.
Your pic or you located / found on a website????

Re: Lumenock Use " Note of Caution Tip"
That doesn't make sense. According to that picture those contacts will ride directly on this edge of the rail groove. To me it makes more sense to line up the contacts with the cock vane.colouredchameleon wrote:SummitSitter wrote:For you guys installing Lumenoks...

Re: Lumenok Use " Note of Caution Tip"
if you line it up the other way it will rub on the arrow holder , the way it shows in the pic. it will be just right.

Re: Lumenok Use " Note of Caution Tip"
I "filed" the protruding contacts down with fingernail emery boards...smooth with the nock sides and line them up same as the photo above....use the emery board to take a little of the ones that are just too tight to fit...done with lighted nocks after these are gone...more trouble than worth

Starting to think the same thing myself. The potential damage that can result from a brain fart when in use may not be worth the benift.
Just another thing to keep track of. If the arrow retainer is damaged no big deal easy to replace but rail damage is just bad bad bad
The theory of " KISS " starts to make more and more sense as I get older.
