Free hand shooting

Post by Carnivorous »

I don't do much free hand shooting but lately I have been trying to improve my groups. This is only 30 yards. Besides the low POI it seems to be getting better.. Lol

When hunting I always use some sort of rest. This is just for fun!

That looks great Jeff. I try to use a rest at all times when possible because my offhand shooting leaves a lot to be desired. I use a caldwell fieldpod in blinds and a treepod in elevated stands.

Same here, I never get the deer to stop where I can get a shot from the rest. Quit trying that quite a bit ago.
Nice shooting Jeff!

Always freehand, shot usually comes too fast to fumble with a rest.

Got to give you guy credit for shooting free hand . I try it and just can't get it  . Maybe if I practice more it will fall into place.

IMO you need a very good trigger to shoot well offhand

Shooting freehand will help develop a stronger core as well, which is another key to being good offhand. Also, try running around a bit and then sitting down to shoot while your heart rate is up. Simulates the real thing a bit better.

Nice shooting by the way!

Nice shooting. I occasionally get to use a rest when hunting, but more often than not I'm shooting freehand. I sight in with a rest, but always practice some freehand at all my typical hunting distances. If I want to simulate my typical hunting scenario, I would need to stand next to a tree and put my target about 20 yards behind it and practice shooting around the tree.

Freehand shooting out to 100y at Boofest last year got me hooked on it. It brings me confidence at hunting ranges. I usually shoot from some sort of rest in the field.
