Doe, finally.

Doe, finally.
To say it has been a slow season for me in Northern Virginia would be an understatement. Finally today on my 12th sit, I laid my eyes on my first doe. We had a front move through today and it is starting to turn colder. I got in the stand about 3:45pm and they appeared at about 4:30pm. It was a nice sized doe with two smaller ones following. The two smaller ones were not close in size, so they may not both have belonged to the doe. I had the wind at my back today so I wasn't expecting a shot at anything coming across in front of me and that's exactly what happened. As the lead doe stepped into an opening at about 30 yards, I sent the Boltcutter and it found its mark, though a bit higher and farther back than I would like. The hit was just below the spine and caught the top of the lung on the far side. She was full of blood front and back when I dressed her. There wasn't much of a blood trail due to the high hit, but the Boltcutter performed well. She didn't make it out of sight.
With this deer, I accomplished my main goal for this season. I have the harvest on video @ https://youtu.be/iDmYHWCSeK0
This one was donated to the Hunters for the Hungry program and I still made it home before dark. Hopefully the colder weather will have them moving in the morning as well and I'd be glad to make another donation. Who knows, maybe this cold will bring some antlers by the stand.

Nice doe, congrats. The two behind her were probably her fawns with the largest being the button buck and the smaller a doe.
